I am going to own that this topic has been on my mind a lot. Especially since my daughter's teacher went to Mexico for spring break. The teacher was sweet enough to have bought all the kids in her class presents. Now, I look at the cute little wooden turtle from Mexico on my daughter's desk in her room, and I think it might be something evil.
I know that is not a good thing. However, my daughter's teacher said in the classroom yesterday that all the kids in her classroom should be worried about getting the Swine Flu. Do I be mad at the teacher for explaining what could be a hazardous thing that could actually turn out to be a reality for the kids in my child's class? The small nagging fear in the back of my mind when I first heard about the Swine Flu is now becoming a raging fear since I learned that my daughter's teacher complained to the class yesterday that she is starting to get sick. She has one of the symptoms.
Fear it is a dreaded word. How do we as a nation take comfort? Should we take Obama's word that it really is not that bad so far? I think we should try. Living by fear is not a good thing.
I think what we have to do is think how we can help the situation if it really does become an issue. Be more thoughtful of your surroundings. Now probably is not the best time to take a trip to Mexico. Wash your hands more each day. Cover you mouth when you sneeze or cough. Buy some Lysol, and spray your home. If you are feeling unwell, do not go out in public especially if you have a fever, nausea, coughing, and vomiting. Get yourself checked out if you think you have the Swine Flu. It does not mean that you have to keep yourself from going out in public if you are feeling healthy, but just use your head and do things wisely.
Try not to fear the Swine Flu at this moment. For now, I am not going to think of my daughter's cute wooden animal on her desk as evil. It is just a cute toy. No really it is. At least that is what I keep telling myself every time I look at it. Nothing is worse than fear.

Post a CommentI just wanted to update my article. Swine Flu did hit the town I live in, and it's the school aged children that are getting it. Schools have been shut down. Although, Swine Flu (not from pigs) can be scary to think about it is important to take the steps listed in my article. Hand Sanitzer is now my new BFF, LOL. ;-) Try not to fear it, but be smart about the choices you make. I hope you and those you care about all stay healthy and happy...
I think common sense and basic hygiene are the best defense. Hay fever is a common ailment at this time of year. The teacher may be suffering from something benign like that. As I understand it, an otherwise healthy person is not a high risk of dire consequences from the flu. It is scary b/c we get conflicting news reports. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and we will get accurate info to make the right decisions for our families.
great job on this
Cathy, I am glad that your family is fine so far. LOL, I did use Lysol on the wooden turtle. ;-)
I understand your concern..my daughter and grandchildren returned from Mexico Sunday and I was a tad worried! They are all fine so far! PS...spritz the little gift with Lysol or something, if you haven't already!
Great info. Thanks!
