Fear Within the Church

A Candid Look at the Issue

Mark Bishop
A friend of my son brought up a topic that I would like to explore here. It was about running from God and being afraid. Being afraid of the future, being afraid of what God has for us to do. Pretty common fears I suspect, and they
will be best addressed by us, as Christians, understanding that God really does love us. This ties in to another fear; the fear of the unknown, which is something that causes serious problems in both evangelism and community relations. After all, if you are afraid of the local Wiccan, it will be hard to talk to them about anything, much less Jesus. Same for the local biker, banker, etc.

The church functions around this by God calling some folks to go back to where they came from to minister. A couple of examples would be Ex-Witch Ministries and Reformers Unanimous. Another way is for Christians to look past the myths and learn a little bit about the various people groups around them. After all, if the fear is of not knowing, a little education can help with that. A third way is the holy boldness that God gives to some of His people. Some Christians that I have met with that are just amazing to see.

The last fear that I am going to deal with here is one that she specifically named as: 'Afraid that we'll be powerless.' This one speaks especially to me on many levels, but especially as an ex-witch. One of the harder things to give up, for me, was power. But when you look at it, I may have given up magic, but I gained Jesus, the Creator of all. He's big enough and loves us enough to trust in Him for spiritual needs as well as physical.

It is much better to look to Jesus and His power, than to look to our own or that of the fallen spirits. In short, the true power resides with Jesus and His love.

I say Amen Mark. I am also glad to welcome you here to AC. I do enjoy having new writers here and you have a most interesting testimony. I am a former drug abuser, alcoholic, & prison inmate, that came from a broken home & homeless & poverty. When I reached the end of my rope, God was there waiting all along. I look forward also to more of your writings as does Paul. You make a good point, in that we can all learn more about other's beliefs & this can reduce the fear...fear of the unknown. I boldy preach Jesus Christ now to any that would receive the message. God bless and again, welcome. You're spot on Mark saying that "true power resides in Jesus & His love"> Amen and amen. :-)
