White Moments

Thomas Cleveland Lane
My eyes adordja
Frankie Valli croons at six
from my old alarm clock radio.
I prop an eye and halfway glare
at the daily breaker of my dreams.

There have been rumors, but then,
there had been rumors in the past,
all of them false as a miracle diet pill.

At last the smartass DJ speaks.
He does not waste our time.
I know, he says, the thing you want to hear,
talking to those who learn and teach.

All Philadelphia public and parochial schools
are closed for the day;
for the cold, wet, snowy, wonderful day.

    I just don't remember having too many snow days when I was a kid in Kentucky.
