Federal Education Grants with the Rising Cost of Education

Federal Education Grants

Carl Evangelista
With the rising cost of education very few incoming freshmen are ready to pay the expenses for college. Parents are then expected to foot the money for the college students tuition. Many times only the rich are able to truly afford college without either federal assistance or loans. The cost of a private, eight semester institution is over $10,000 a semester. Even at the smaller college or even a local community college the cost for classes, books and fees for the campus can be overwhelming.

So what is the answer to this problem? The federal government has a solution for low income families who still want a post-secondary eduction. Federal Grants are giving more and more money to college students who are looking to help funds their studies. These grants have helped increase the percentage of college graduates who enter college as well as the number of students who graduate within four years.

Studies have shown that students without finical burden perform better then those who have to work outside of school hours at a job to help pay for college. The Pell Grant is one of those grants put in place to help college student. The Federal Financial Aid Application is a quick and easy way to apply for all the different grants for education purposes. The FAFSA form is the only way to apply for most federal and state grant programs for post secondary education. The form is completely free and simplifies the process of applying for financial aid.

The Pell Grant is the most popular grant that students are eligible for. The Pell Grant was created in 1972 and is the way that the federal government funds the post-secondary education system. The grant is based on finical need and is very easy to obtain. The FAFSA form is online and extremely easy to fill out.

Another grant is the Academic Competitiveness Grant. It is a academic based grant and is for undergraduate freshman and sophomores who show achievements in academics and have shown they are natural leaders in their classes and community. They must also be available for the Pell Grant.

The SMART Grant is a third option for juniors and seniors. It is an addition grant given to the students showing more leaderships in math and science fields. The federal governments makes it very easy for financially troubled families to still receive the education that is needed. The FAFSA form is a great tool for grants.
