Fedor Emelianenko Vs Anderson Silva Fight Analysis

James
A fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Anderson Silva would be one of the most anticipated bouts in any combat sport, including boxing. The fight is perfect because both fighters are around the same weight, as Fedor usually clocks in at about 230 and carries a fair amount of fat. Anderson Silva has stated that he is about 220 with some fat, which means that the two fighters are only about 10 pounds apart in lean body mass. That's not why a fight between the two is interesting, though--it's just why they are compatible. Fans want to see Fedor fight Anderson because they will be able to definitively see who the pound for pound champion is. While the odds of this fight happening are slim-to-none, it's still interesting to analyze. Both fighters have vastly different skillsets and approach fighting different ways, which will make for a dynamic and interesting fight. In the end, though, I think Fedor Emelianenko would finish Anderson Silva. I'll explain why.

Striking

Anderson's striking is among the best in the sport, with very few fighters even able to hit him--he is one of the least hit fighters in mixed martial arts. That said, Fedor is actually THE least hit fighter in MMA. While his striking isn't as technical as Anderon's, he's able to put all of his skills together so well that he becomes dangerous from every angle and distance. He's able to close quickly and swarm his opponents with a variety of strikes. It's also likely that he hits harder than Anderson Silva: every time Fedor unleashes his hands, his opponents turtle up. He doesn't have many KO or TKO wins because he prefers to finish his opponents with submissions instead of strikes. This may have to do with his injured hand. Overall, I'd have to say that the striking is even between the two fighters. While both fighters can win the fight standing, I think they will neutralize eachother there. Striking: No advantage.

Takedowns and Throws

Anderson's takedown defense has always been questionable. Most fighters who have been able to close the distance and want to take him down are able to. Thales Leites, for example, isn't really known for his takedowns but he was able to secure one on Anderson. Fedor, however, is a Russian Sambo champion and a great Judo practitioner. If he's able to close the distance with Anderson, he should be able to secure an easy takedown. The size and strength advantage that he commands will also help him in this area. Takedowns and Throws: Advantage Fedor.

Ground Game: Advantage Fedor

While Anderson only has average takedown defense, his ground game is well above average. He has great submissions and solid submission defense, especially after his losses to Takase and Chonan. That said, he is able to be held down by elite wrestlers and smothered by fighters that are heavier or stronger than he is. Fedor is both of these things and should have no problem controlling Anderson on the ground. He might even be able to secure one of Anderson's long arms and get a submission finish. I don't see Anderson Silva having the strength nor the skill to submit or really even threaten Fedor from his back. Ground Game: Advantage Fedor

I'm not going to factor in chin, heart, or game planning, as these things vary widely on a fight-to-fight basis. That said, Fedor's cold demeanor is often considered one of his best weapons as he is able to relax in the ring and doesn't really panic or show any emotion, even if he's in trouble. Anderson is also able to keep his cool, but he seems to be a bit more emotional in the cage. His showboating might also get him in trouble against a fighter with a comparable skillset. Overall, Fedor should be able to take this fight pretty easily with his ability to tie all of his skills together and his vastly superior ground game. If Anderson were to win, it would be by early KO, but we already know that Fedor is almost impossible to hit.

Just stumbled upon this and it's hilarious. Anderson Silva is a much better striker than Fedor. Fedor got outboxed by Arlovski and out struck by Bigfoot Silva. As far as not skilled enough to even threaten Fedor on the ground....seriously? He has a black belt under The Nog brothers and big nog threatened fedor. Nog has also stated that Silva has knocked him out in sparring before...something Fedor couldn't do when trying.

I love Fedor! He is by far my all time favorite figher! Even all the top guys say he's the best (gsp,bj,anderson). He is not only the bomb at fighing but he is a good example of what a professional fighter should be. Plus Anderson has gotten pretty cocky as of late, not to say he doesn't deserve to be able to believe he is the man. However Fedor also has that right, but he is always humble and respectful of his opponent regardless of what they say. I also believe Fedor would win that fight. One day with a little bit of luck maybe we'll find out, but not likely.
