Nuclear Worries in Nebraska

Larry Crosby

Lately these recent floods have brought up an interesting problem or two. The problem of nuclear reactors in a flood zone is one. The other problem at least in the Nebraska area is the complete news blackout from the national press of the reactors being underwater or are surrounded by a damn holding back several feet of water.

The comment sections of the flood news is where you can find much more accurate information about what is going on than the national press is reporting. The water surrounding both nuclear power plants on the Missouri river around Omaha where mentioned by the people posting the problem on the comment section. Yet no national reporting of the problem until a Washington department head decided to look at the sites. One of the sites is shut down and the other is still operating. The story did not give much information especially about the reactor that is supposedly underwater.

You would think a underwater nuclear reactor would get a lot more attention than it has. Why has nobody from the national press looked into a problem that could rival Japans nightmare? Good question wish I had an answer that was not slimy in nature.

Another question was brought up on the comments section. What are nuclear reactors doing in a flood zone? With global warming causing much more flooding this is a problem that won't go away. Eventually there is going to be a disaster. Maybe very soon since the rains are showing no signs of slacking up and two nuclear reactors are in a bad position. Last night the rain came down very hard. I am wondering how long can the reactors resist the forces of nature? Or are they already busted and the government hopes nobody will notice. Either way it looks like we will be glowing in the dark real soon.
