Northwestern Memorial Hospital is a place like no other. As you walk through the main hospital, it almost seems like you're in a shopping mall. The place is huge and I've gotten lost so many times. I've volunteered at Northwestern in a number of different capacities, but I think my favorite stint was when I volunteered in the Feinberg Lobby. I worked at the information desk, which gave me the opportunity to interact with families and sometimes the patients. Although they tell you that you have to maintain a professional demeanor when working there, it's hard not to become friendly with the patients and their families, especially the ones that you see on a frequent basis.

I only volunteered there for about a month, but I've also worked in the emergency room, which is always unbelievably hectic, but very well organized and efficiently run. Not only is the medical staff amazing, caring and professional, the many volunteers that I've met there were some of the nicest people that I've ever met. I have to say though that volunteering in the Feinberg Lobby of the hospital was one of my favorite volunteering ops.
