Felicia Day: The Female Star of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"

If you've checked out Joss Whedon's enormously popular musical event, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" then you're already met beautiful redhead Felicia Day who plays Penny, the bookish love interest of both Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer. Felicia joined Whedon, along with Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion, looking to do an independent project during the recent writers' strike. "Dr. Horrible," a musical superhero web series, is a family project; Joss Whedon's brothers, Zach and Jed Whedon, also participated in writing and production.

Before performing as Penny, Felicia had extensive experience in film, television, and new media. After graduating from the University of Texas, Felicia moved to LA to pursue a career as an actress. She started in independent film and commercials as well as small roles on TV shows, such as the short-lived Judd Apatow series, "Undeclared." Fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" will also know that Felicia guest-starred on the Sarah Michelle Gellar series for 8 episodes as Vi. Most recently Felicia has created, written, and starred in the web series "The Guild," which has won an award for Best Original Digital Series at the South by Southwest and On Network Greenlight Series Awards. Additionally, the web series won awards for Best Series at the Yahoo Video Awards and the YouTube Video Awards

According to Felicia, she met Joss Whedon, allegedly a devoted fan of musical theater, on the picket lines during the writers' strike. There he asked her if she wanted to participate in a supervillian musical. In addition to her television work, Felicia has participated in theater, both as a dancer and singer. Although she admitted feeling a little nervous singing against Neil Patrick Harris (who has had a successful musical theater career), viewers of "Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" can attest that Felicia holds her own as a singer. However, Nathan Fillion was a little more confident, claiming that he could "carry a tune in a bucket" as well as citing that he was a karaoke host during his time in college.

"Dr. Horrible" was more popular than any of the creators anticipated. The response was so enormous that the website's servers went down. At a recent Comic-Con event, a panel "Dr. Horrible" creators and cast agreed that there will be more Dr. Horrible to come. While Felicia is uncertain if she'll be back as Penny, she's excited to have the opportunity!
