Female Gifts for Under $10

Dee Dee Smith
Looking for a gift for a neighbor, co-worker or casual acquaintance? It can be difficult to find something appropriate as well as economical. We ladies tend to grab the same old gifts in these circumstances. I can't tell you how many candles, figurines, teddy bears or coffee cups I've received for birthdays and other occasions. Although the sentiment is appreciated, many of these items are stored away in a closet somewhere.

With a little thought and research, you'd be surprised how easy it is to find a meaningful, memorable and practical gift for less than $10. Consider the following ideas:

A Favorite Magazine

For a little under $10 you can purchase a magazine or two as a special gift. Consider a generic magazine such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan or Home and Gardens. A magazine related to a friend's favorite hobby or interest is even a better choice. Some specialty magazines to consider include Ski Magazine, Bon Appetit, Vegetarian, Golf Digest, Creative Knitting or Scrapbooks, etc. Wrap the magazine(s) with a beautiful ribbon for presentation.

Hobby Gifts

As a crocheter, I really appreciate gifts related to my hobby. For the crocheter or knitter, consider items like needles, yarn, pattern books or storage containers. Other great hobby gifts include a quality weed fork or gloves for gardeners, stamps, paper packs or stickers for scrapbook enthusiasts, and scissors and/or fabric for the quilter on your gift list. Even the smallest, inexpensive gift can be memorable when related to one's passion.

A Favorite Food

A gift of a favorite food is sure to garner a smile. Consider placing M&M's in a large jar with a ribbon, or my favorite, licorice in a container for a co-workers desk. A food combination gift may also be a good idea. Some options to consider include a gourmet pancake mix with syrup, pasta and spaghetti sauce or popcorn with a special seasoning.

Gift Certificates

I often shy away from giving gift certificates as they can be so impersonal. However, with an acquaintance or someone you do not know very well it can be a wise option. For under $10 gift certificates for bowling, the driving range or video rental store are all good choices.

Lastly, if all else fails, consider an extremely practical gift. With the cost of household items seemingly increasing daily, a mop bucket filled with cleaning supplies might be a welcomed gift.

Good ideas and you're right of course - gifts don't need to break the bank to be appreciated.
