Feminine Decor: Pink and Gold Fleur De Lis Dresser

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Unique and bold furniture pieces are a great way to make a statement in your home. This feminine pink and gold Fleur de Lis dresser project is quite sassy and will definitely draw in the attention of your guests. Use as a bedroom dresser or as a living room entertainment cabinet.

For this project, you will need:

- One wooden dresser in fairly good condition
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar soft cloth
- Masking tape
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil
- Cardstock
- Five inch or larger Fleur de Lis stencil
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Craft paper or a dissembled paper bag
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

First, cover the area you will be crafting this dresser with newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Remove any existing paint and/or stain on the wooden dresser using paint thinner and/or stripper according to manufacturer directions. Remove the dresser drawers from the main cabinet. Remove all hardware from the drawer fronts and set it safely aside. Ã' Very lightly sand the outside of the dresser cabinet and the drawer fronts using sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the outside of the dresser cabinet and all drawer fronts using a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to remove grit.

Spray the entire outside of the dresser cabinet and all drawer fronts with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Add several coats of primer so that the wood coloring does not show through. Once the primer has dried, paint the dresser and drawer fronts using several thick coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Let the cabinet set for a few hours before continuing.

Lay the sheet of cardstock flat on the self healing mat. In pencil, trace a five inch or larger Fleur de Lis image from stencil. Carefully cut out the Fleur de Lis design from the cardstock. Discard the cardstock cutout pieces. Use masking tape to adhere the piece of cardstock to one drawer front. Cover all areas except the Fleur de Lis design using masking tape plus craft paper and/or a dissembled paper bag.

Spray the exposed Fleur de Lis design with Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil. Apply several thick coats. Repeat this step for each of the drawer fronts. Let the gold paint dry overnight.

Reinstall any hardware on the dresser. Place the drawers back in the main dresser cabinet and enjoy your new creation.
