Feng Shui: The Benefits of Using Fountains in Your Home or Office

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placing objects in a home or office in such a way that the flow of energy or Chi is improved. There are many elements to the practice of Feng Shui, and in truth you could study for years and still have something to learn. Also, there are many ways in which you can apply different practices of Feng Shui, and of course there are many different interpretations of the different practices as well. However, one of the most common themes throughout Feng Shui is one in which the five elements are applied to the home or office. The five elements are earth, fire, wood, water, and metal. This concept states that all of the elements must be in balance in a home or office in order to keep the flow of energy at its best. What this means is there have to be objects representative of each element in a home or office without too many of one or the other.

Even though balance between the elements is very important, the element water plays a strategic role in the practice of Feng Shui. As such, having a fountain in your home or office can be very beneficial. In the tenets of Feng Shui it is believed that flowing water helps to increase the positive energy or Chi in a home or office.

One way to use your fountain to your advantage following the teachings of Feng Shui is to put your fountain so it is facing your door. The idea behind this is that prosperity will be brought or drawn to you. If you have your fountain facing away from the door, prosperity will flow away from you, according to Feng Shui.

There are also other benefits to having fountains in your home or office. If you suffer from allergies related to dust and other allergens in the air, a fountain will help to filter these things from the air you breathe. However, this is only the case if you change the water often, otherwise you could wind up with moldy or dust filled water which can exacerbate your allergies. Another benefit of having a fountain in your home or office is that the sound of flowing water can be very calming, and help to keep you from feeling stressed or overwhelmed in uncomfortable work or home situations. In addition, the sounds of moving water from a fountain can also help to drown out city noise which can be stressful as well. A final benefit is that a fountain will put more negative ions into the environment it is placed in. Too many positive ions in the air can make us feel bad, so having a fountain and extra negative ions can help us to feel more positive.

There are many types of indoor fountains available for purchase, ranging in cost from $10 to $100. I have seen the $10 variety at Walgreens, and the more expensive sort in new age catalogs. Some companies are even making fountains that incorporate all five elements into their design. One nice thing about this type of fountain is having it takes care of the other elements, hence saving you money on purchasing other items to cover the missing elements, or having to look through your home for them.

What you spend on your fountain is up to you, but you will discover once you have one that you will be feeling much more positive and better able to handle stress, as well as having a reduction in your allergy symptoms.

Feng Shui has been practiced for hundreds of years in the Asian world. It is only in the last twenty years or so that it has become popular in the west. I have personally found Feng Shui to be very helpful in many ways. I hope that you have the same experience.
