Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art which integrates harmonious living with nature with the subtle but vital life force 'Chi'. Based on its philosophy, all matter is derived from 5 basic elements - fire, earth, wood water and metal. Each element is attributed certain qualities in the Fen Shui system. Accordingly, every place derives certain qualities based on the elements it is composed of. A proper balance of the elements ('Yin' and 'Yang') is essential to keep for a happy and spiritual life.

Based on this theory, Feng Shui recommends ways to boost certain qualities in certain areas in our living space. The 'Bagua' splits your living space into 9 portions and each portion is believe to denote one aspect of life such as health, fame, relationship, creativity, opportunities and spiritual guidance, career, knowledge, family honor and prosperity. Feng Shui recommends ways to enhance each aspect of your life simple by designing the corresponding portion of your living space appropriately.

You can enhance your business or work place to have positive energy flowing through it. An ideal Feng Shui office is designed to boost one's career, opportunities, reputation and prosperity. Simple using colors and simple objects like mirrors, flowers, bells, chimes and other pieces of art could be sufficient to give you a noticeable improvement.

Your career prospect is symbolized by the northern portion of the office. This region has the nature of element water. You may place a small water fountain or a mirror by the northern wall. You may use glass artwork to decorate the furniture in this portion of your office. Black color is considered to be desirable for your cabinets or furniture in this area.

In the northwest lie the energies that influence your opportunities. The region has the attributes of hard metal. Silver and grey colored metal furniture or book shelves may be place here. You can also hang a metallic chime as a sign of good luck in the northwest.

The southeastern corner of your office symbolizes prosperity and has the quality of wood. Place you wooden shelves and furniture here. Use red, gold and purple colors to enhance this area. You may also place potted flowering plants with red and purple blossoms by the southeastern wall.

The south symbolizes reputation and has the attributes of element wood. Bright red is the ruling color for this section of your Feng Shui office. Do not place water container or a fountain in this part as water can imbalance wood.

When the Chi flows unobstructed, it will bring in great wealth and fortunes. You may place an idol of a powerful animal such as an elephant raising its trunk or a laughing Buddha by your desk to signify power or luck. Avoid clutter and allow fresh air in your office. Place the furniture such that you can see the door to your room from your seat. Preferably place the desk at the center of the room and not in a corner.
