The goal is to provide a large edible forest of perennials and annuals in 25 raised beds, supplemented by a pond and rainwater collection system, greenhouse and reciprocal roof structure. The area will also serve as a self-catering event venue, dotted by benches.
The project's mission is to encourage a meaningful collaboration between individuals, families and the earth through sustainable gardening, community education and events. This also allows the chance to teach through the schools.
The GNG also needs gardeners, volunteers and leaders who enjoy communing in a garden, the joy of sharing with neighbors, and the fiscal savings of locally-grown, organic produce. Self-motivated individuals or groups that want to be part of the project and that have some available time are encouraged to connect with the project director, Trevor Johnson, at the Jefferson Center, 22001 Republic.
The public is urged to become members of the GNG and receive bi-weekly e-mail newsletters detailing upcoming events and updates. Members are also able to vote on issues and take a more active role in the project. Donations of $30 or more are welcome and are also tax deductible.
All membership fees and donations can be directed to:
