The Ferndale Marching Band had quite a year. The band won the AA State Championship for the sixth time in seven years. Ford Field in downtown Detroit was the venue for the Flight III division of the Michigan Competing Bands Association, and Ferndale's finest took home awards for Best Marching and Best General Effect. The band has 122 members, all of which were certainly part of the championship show.
For this year's event, the band's show was called "Intersteller Suite" and included songs like "Wild Nights," "Asphalt Cocktail," and "Song for Lyndsay." The band won first place four years in a row before taking third in 2008. That became a motivating factor for the band, and they have proven that by winning first place again for the last two years.
