Ferndale students face a hot final school day

The good thing for the kids is that Friday's only a half-day

Ferndale students are grateful that their last day of the school year on Friday, June 18, will be only a half-day. The weather forecast calls for a high temperature of 87 degrees. Schools can be miserably stuffy during June, but the Ferndale kids will be able to meet and greet and then split.

Folks planning a Friday night outing may opt to beat the heat by checking out the Magic Bag on Woodward Avenue, featuring indie pop singer Carolyn Striho, who accompanies herself on keyboards, guitar and sitar.

Saturday, June 19, will be a rare summer Saturday when a Ferndale festival is not scheduled. That could be a good thing, because with a forecast of 91 degrees and clouds, many people will be staying home in the air conditioning.

Temps are expected to come down to the lower 80s through midweek, but there's a chance of scattered thundershowers each day through Thursday.
