Ferndale Will Keep Crossing Guards After All

Mark Vansetti
School Crossing Guards were almost eliminated from Ferndale's budget for 2011. However, after further investigation, the city realized that it is required to pay for crossing guards at certain intersections, so the issue was revisited.

The Ferndale Police Chief delivered an opinion which explained that Ferndale has had seven different crossing guards in the past. He consulted with Ferndale Public Schools, and they decided that two of the crossing guards can be eliminated completely, although he didn't explain why. The Police Chief also determined that two of the crossing guards assist children in crossing over to Pleasant Ridge, so the City Manager of Pleasant Ridge has agreed to pay for half of those guards.

Cutting the total from seven guards, to three guards and paying half for two guards, the required amount budget was decreased from over $32,000 to just over $21,000 for 2011.
