Herbal supplements isn't a new trend; in fact they have been used medicinally for thousands of years. Everyone has heard of Gingko for better memory, flaxseed to lower cholesterol and ginseng for mental alertness; this list could go on indefinitely. However, herbal supplement manufacturers don't have to get approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before putting their products on the market. So some could be dangerous or even negatively effect a prescription that you take.

Herbs you should avoid while trying to conceive

You should avoid the following supplements if you are wanting to conceive. St. John's wort, echinacea, and ginkgo biloba are among the herbs that may affect the chances of conceiving. "Many herbal preparations have been documented to contain estrogenic substances, which can have an impact on sex-hormone concentration and fertility in both males and females," says Gilbert Ross, MD, medical director of the American Council on Science and Health in New York.

Other herbal supplements include wild yam, pomegranate, Neem oil, seeds of Queen Annes lace, and Kernels of Apricot.

This oil is also believed to prevent the implantation of the embryo in the uterus. It is also known as wild carrot, and it is a contraceptive that can be taken as and when required. The seeds of this carrot have natural contraceptive properties. If these seeds are taken within the first 8 hours of sexual intercourse followed by a second dose, they can prevent fertilization. Kernels of the apricot have an anti-cancer property.
