Some of the classic displays consist of Snowflake Tunnel, Polyhedron Star (has over 2,000 lights), Poinsettia Wreath and Candle, Candy Cane Wreath, Twelve Days of Christmas and Willard the Snowman. These have become the staple of the Festival of Light Christmas lights. Also, each year Olgebay Resort hosts a contest where children can submit their ideas for a new display.
Another great display that started in 2000 with the permission of the wife of creator Charles Schulz is the Peanut display. This display contains all the favorite characters of the Peanut clan, including the famous Snoopy. The Peanut display has become a favorite among visitors and continues to this day.
A great Christmas Display that your children will love is "The Good Zoo" where over 35,000 lights are displayed nightly on the zoo patio. The lights are setup to flash and blink to holiday music and is a very good display to see. Also, the zoo hosts a nightly laser light show that lights up the sky.
Visiting the Festival of Lights 2009, starts November 13, 2009 until January 3, 2010. The Festival of Lights are open Sunday-Thursday until 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday open until 11 p.m. There's no set fee, but they request a per car donation for driving through to look at the amazing Christmas lights. Your one time donation is good for the whole Festival of Lights season. If you don't want to drive through the park then you can take a trolley ride as well.
The Festival of Lights is one of the top ten Christmas light displays in the United States. I recommend visiting the Olgebay Resort at least once to see the amazing display of lights. The children will love all the colored lights and displays. The Olgebay Resort really brings out the Christmas spirit.
