Festive Thanksgiving Kitchen Decorations

Elle Godin
I am one of those people that like to decorate for even the most mundane of seasons and holidays! I have boxes in my storage room for each Holiday and two or three boxes for bigger holidays like Christmas and Halloween. Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that people seem to forget about. Even if you decide to decorate one area of the home with small accent pieces, here are some ways to create a festive experience - whether it is on a dinner table, a door or a part of the living space.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate because of the festive nature and the holidays. I love place settings in the kitchen that create appealing, eye catching designs to prepare the guests for the wonderful food that is going to be served.

There are many ways that we can create a festive holiday setting with a fall color palette. Traditional fall, festive thanksgiving decorations can include colorful oranges, reds, deep yellows and browns. To offset these colors and create a more traditional feel I like to include crisp whites and soft creams with punches of color like a deep purple ordeal teal. Centerpieces can include the traditional gourds and vegetables but with colorful ribbons tying the centerpieces together. Smaller pumpkins can be used to hold the napkins onto the place or, the napkins can be pulled through the stem of the pumpkin to create an interesting arrangement.

Festive thanksgiving decorations within the home do not need to stop at the table, wreaths are a favorite of mine for every occasion and fall is no better time to display the festivities as it is the first thing that people see when they enter the home. Consider a full wreath that creates a focal point on the door filled with lush greenery, fall colors, ribbon and of course those festive things like crab apples and falling leaves. The wreaths can be used throughout the home on doors leading to the kitchen, the living space and of course - the front door!

One of my favorite fall decorations are available at the local craft store, faux maple leaves in a variety of colors that can be scattered throughout the tables on the home - creating the perfect display.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to gather with family and enjoy the holiday - so why not create the experience the moment that the guests arrive? Miniature Hay bales and pumpkins are one thing that symbolizes fall to me. Something a little different to try is placing two baskets near the kitchen door filled with fall vegetables and apples that have been growing in the garden all summer long - guests will love the little treat that they can leave with every time they come to visit
