Fiat Bringing MultiAir Technology to US Engines

There is a new technology that is shaking up the European auto market and is about to be introduced to the United States later this year. World renown automaker Fiat recently released the MultiAir induction technology, something the company claims to be their absolute crowing achievement. That is a pretty big statement from a company credited with creating what we know as the common rail diesel engine. Luckily I was able to learn about this technology and would like to inform you about it before it lands here in the States.

The first question that probably comes to your mind is what is MultiAir induction technology. This is a technology that Fiat created to boost the power of an engine by 10 percent. In turn it will also increase low-end torque by 15 percent and even improve your fuel economy at the same time. The technology will work through applying it to current diesel engine and larger gasoline engine models that are on the market today. However, it should be noted that the technology has the capability to be incorporated into all gasoline engines over time.

The best way to describe what Fiat is doing is that they are using variable valve timing. Fiat has learned a way to play around with the valve timing to increase more efficiency out of the engine. Do not believe that this is something that the company created overnight either. They have actually been working on MultiAir technology for nearly 15 years! Fiat believes this is the future of engines and they have the rest of the automakers nodding in agreement.

Fiat is using the technology on 4-cylinder engines in Europe. The company did this as simply a trial and decided to stay with it. Their technology will actually work better in larger engines according to tests that they have conducted. This is good news because most the vehicles in the United States incorporate larger engines. Our society seems to like everything bigger and MultiAir technology will offer us bigger efficiency for our bigger obsessions.

The Fiat company is betting a lot on their new technology. It appears that the company has no other new technology close to be revealed. They have spent most of their time on this technology because they felt it was the future. Since it has the ability to increase efficiency with no end in site for being able to further increase the efficiency, it looks like they have indeed created something breathtaking.
