That is often when I reach for a fiber bar instead of a meal. My favorite bars come from Fiber One. I particularly like their new Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bar.
The 4.10 oz package consists of 5 bars. Each bar is .82 oz or 23 grams.
From General Mills, the Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bar contains 90 calories. Of that 90 calories, a mere 20 of them are fat-related.
These bars contain 2 grams of fat. One gram of that comes from saturated fat.
Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bars also contain 17 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of sugar and 80 milligrams of salt. They do not; however, contain any cholesterol.
On a positive note, Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bars provide 5 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein with trace amounts of Vitamins A and C.
Ingredients include canola oil, chicory root extract, cocoa, corn syrup, glycerin, honey, milk, palm kernel oil, puffed wheat, rice flour, salt, semi-sweet chocolate chips, sugar and whole grain oats. The bars also contain baking soda, caramel color, cellulose gum, fructose, malt extract, maltodextrin, mixed tocopherois, natural flavors and soy lecithin.
Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bars claim fiber works to satisfy an appetite. Is that true?
For most people it does seem to work. According to Calories Per Hour (.com), fiber acts as an amazing filler. At such it is successful in convincing the stomach that it is full.
That works because fiber slows the digestive tract. In turn, it remains in the stomach longer and then passes on through without leaving a lot calories behind. Fiber also helps to remove certain types of fat from the system so that it isn't stored or maintained.
Because the food intake is smaller, fiber is able to help in the weight loss process. That is a valuable side benefit.
Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bars are available in most grocery stores, discount department stores with food sections and some drug or convenience stores. They retail for around $3 per box, which breaks down to about $.60 apiece.
Here is my summary review:
Taste: 5 stars. Fiber One Chocolate 90 Calorie Chewy Bars are delicious. While my favorite is still their Mocha Bar, this one runs a close second.
Appearance: 5 stars: The bars look delicious, maybe because they are.
Reputation: 5 stars. General Mills makes grade A products and their Fiber One line is no exception. They enjoy a well deserved reputation because they've earned it.
Nutrition: 4 stars. While the bars are too high in calories or fat, their carb intake could be too much for some people. Additionally, they do contain sugar and salt. On the flip side; however, the fiber and protein content is a positive.
Size: 3 stars. Fiber One's 90-calorie bars are slightly smaller than their regular bars. On the other hand, they are large enough to do the job.
Green rating: 3 stars. The packaging is biodegradable but not reusable.
Packaging: 4 stars. The bars come white and light blue cellophane wrappers with red, brown, and black lettering. An accurate representation of the bar is picture on the front. The nutritional facts are printed on the back of each bar. The box that holds the bars is similar in look and contains the same information.
Ease of storage: 5 stars. The box measures 5.5" by 5.5" by 1.5". It is small enough to fit into most cabinets, pantries, or drawers. The bars measure 5.5" by 1.25" by .5" and can fit easily into a lunchbox, a handbag or a pocket.
Final rating: 4.2 stars, which means the bars fall into the good category.
RATING SCALE:
5 stars = outstanding
4 stars = good
3 stars = average
2 stars = below average
1 star = poor
