Surprisingly, an American law stands that forbids the federal U.S. government from ordering the assassination of any foreign leaders. However, declassified government files show that the CIA made several attempts to assassinate Castro just a few years after the Cuban revolution in 1959, reported the Associated Press.
Castro also noted that President Ford signed the order banning assassinations of foreign leaders. He also said he believed that President Carter and President Clinton never tried to have him assassinated, although current President Bush has pondered the idea of killing him.
Castro has not been in the public eye for 11 months since his conditioned became worse after surgery. Right now the Cuban government has been led by Raul Castro while Fidel is recovering from his condition. In his private life he has started becoming an essay writer. On May 29th, 2007 he accused Bush of wanting him dead, said the Associated Press. Castro did not state how he find out that his assassination was ordered. In addition, he said that the US government was not the only government to consider murdering Castro.
In Castro's essay, he wrote, "I'm not the first, nor will I be the last, whom Bush has ordered to be deprived of life."
In his most recent essay, he referred to the same assassination allegation. In his new essay he said, "Why did I say one day in a reflection that Bush authorized or ordered my death? This phrase can seem ambiguous and imprecise...perhaps it would be more exact, although even more confusing, to say that he authorized it and ordered it."
The Associated Press also noted that the White House and George Bush have no reacted to Castro's claim at all. It is also expected that there will be no response.
