Fiery Night

Susan Owens

Night swept upon the sky

Faster than a blinked eye

I wait for the morning to come

The sun does not rise

The sleeping man does not rise

And still I wait some more

Hidden away from the darkness

Away from its evil shadows

Who hunt me whilst it's dark?

The shadows they do come

They'll never find me

Hidden beneath the veil of light

I wait for morning to come

The old man does not put his boots on

The rooster does not roost

And still I wait some more

Curled in the corner

Back against the wall

Front to face the door

That leads to the hall

Watching for the shadow men

I'd like to see them get in!

They'll place a trance upon you

As they dance around the room

Do not be fooled by them

These shadows dance not to amuse men

Do not be mistaken

These shadows are no friend

They dance not for you

They dance for the evil they have become

I cannot fall asleep

I must stay awake

They will not take me alive

I'll run, and run some more

I will not let them get me

I cannot fall asleep

I must stay wake

For there by the doors own frame

Lay the shadows as they creep in

As sneaky as they are

I am smarter

Much by far

I cannot fall asleep

I must stay awake

For now they have seeped upon the farthest wall

Here it comes

The shadows dance

I must not look, for there's the trance

I cannot fall asleep

I must stay awake

It's my life the shadows dare take
