FIFA 11 for Xbox 360 Video Game Review
Whether You Call it Soccer or Football, This Game Does it Right
Is this on TV or am I playing a game?
Great sports games tend to have a quality of confusing passer-byers as to what exactly they are watching. I have passed by a television and been so entranced by a football game that I thought for a moment that it was an actual game--FIFA does that for soccer. The graphics are great, but more than that are the nuances that have been added to every bit of the game.
The always annoying repeat of soundbites from the commentators has been fixed somewhat by the addition of much more content. The commentators will even go into long stories that break away from the action from time to time. Another addition is the ability to choose the team chant that your fans will start belting out in the middle of your wondrous victory. It's a nice subtle touch that makes the game feel real.
The beautiful game is more beautiful than ever!
Customization in the game is more advanced than ever and the career mode is as strong as ever. A new addition is the ability to play as the goalkeeper--though as anyone who has ever held the positions knows, it can be an uneventful way to play soccer. One of the best new additions are the personality points of many of the players in the game. These special stats give a player that unique style of play that we all associate them with. Christiano Rolando has the tendency to shoot for goal like crazy, while loudmouth players tend to yell at refs and get fouls.
This game includes online and offline play, both of which are nicely put together. The online play is much the same as previous versions, but that's a good thing overall. This game has just enough new material to make it worth the upgrade for serious soccer fans. The passing in the game has also been revamped so that it is easier than ever to come into the game as a novice or use complicated passes to befuddle your opponents. Reviewers give this game a 9.5-10/10. This is a golden game, make no mistake.
