Fight like a Girl: Knocking Out Rett Syndrome in East Idaho

On Saturday August 7th, 2010 a fundraiser for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) is being held at Porter Park in Rexburg, Idaho. There are events scheduled throughout the day including a fishing tournament, volleyball tournament, family fun fair and a live auction that will be going on throughout the day. However the main event is a catered dinner featuring Kevin Black, brother of famous country singer Clint Black.

The fishing tournament will actually take place on July 31st, 2010 at Rainbow Lake in Rexburg, Idaho. Competition in the tournament will be done in two person teams. There will be two heats to the tournament along with food and a silent auction, an award ceremony and live band. It cost $100 per angler to enter the tournament. Grand prize is $5000 there are many other amazing prizes. Registering can be done at flyfishingfrenzy.com.

Spike for the Cure is the co-ed volleyball tournament. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and play begins at 9:00 a.m. Cost per team is $45 if you pre-register and $60 if you sign up the day of the event. There will be pool play and then bracket broken into A, B, and open. All level will play on co-ed nets and teams may consist of any combination of players except all male. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. is the family fun fair. You can count on options upon options of fun, food, and activities. There will be many vendors all dedicated to helping raise money for finding a cure. This is your opportunity to help, any fun you have, food you eat, or auctions you participate in all benefit the IRSF. There is no better way to justify a day of fun with you family.

Now for the main event. Famous Dave's is catering, Kevin Black is performing and everyone is going to have a great time. Seating for this performance is limited. Tickets may be purchased at Famous Dave's in Idaho Falls and at KUPI 99 beginning July 23rd, 2010. They are $40. During the performance many more amazing items will be auctioned off.

If you have never heard of Rett Syndrome it is a unique developmental disorder that causes problems in learning, speech, sensory sensations, mood, movement, breathing, cardiac function, chewing, swallowing and digestion. It is almost always seen in girls, and symptoms appear after normal development until six to eighteen months. Recently there have been some amazing research developments, giving us hope for a cure in the near future.

Every dollar raised this year will be matched by Clint Black and Scott Hamilton, up to one million dollars.
