Fight for Peace

Jessaka Romine

I feel the dark around me.

It's really no big deal.

With my arms, I hug myself

And block out what I feel.

What I feel is not important.

What I feel is no concern.

I push the thoughts into the back.

For now, it's not my turn.

You live your life the best you can.

Decisions not always right.

But a wrong decision or mistake

Is at least living life with a fight.

Are your eyes open?

Are you living life awake?

Or do you go through the motions?

Do you live a life that's fake?

The person you used to be is gone

That time in your life is done.

Time to live for the here and now

Live, love, and have fun.

You shake the shadows from your mind.

They are trying so hard to creep in.

A sigh followed by a deep breath of air

And you hope that you will win.

For this battle is merely against yourself.

A battle for closure and peace

A battle that may have no ending,

In a mind that may have no release.
