Workplace boredom happens to even the most seasoned professionals. Being bored at work is a wake up call to you. If you need to fight boredom in the workplace and suffer from workplace boredom, here are five things you can do to end such boredom.

In order prevent being bored at work, you need to challenge yourself. Ask your boss for an assignment that will show teach you something about a different aspect of the company. If you are in customer service or marketing, try to find a new account or a new customer. Challenging yourself to become a better employee is one of the best ways to fight workplace boredom.

A second way to prevent being bored at work is to organize your desk. Chances are there is something in your office or cubicle that needs to be organized. Organization is dull and monotonous, but if you organize your workspace you will become less stressed and more efficient at work.

If you are bored at work, offer to start a social committee. If you are bored, chances are your coworkers are bored as well. If you can get support of upper management, prepare a "Fun Friday" or other event that will be designed to boost morale. Fun Fridays could be as simple as orchestrating a pot luck lunch, or as detailed as planning a fun theme party during lunch hour. You will make friends at your office, boost morale, and end workplace boredom for both yourself and your coworkers.

Being bored at work could signal that you need to go back to school to further your skills. Ask your human resources department about possible tuition reimbursement programs. You will become a valuable asset to your company and also gain something that no one can ever take away from you: education. Improving yourself with education will help fight boredom in the workplace by giving you something to focus your efforts on during your legitimate downtime. WARNING: do not focus your efforts on your school work while you are supposed to be performing your on the job duties.

If you've tried everything, and still have to fight boredom in the workplace, then you need to really have a heart to heart with yourself on the implications. It might be time for you to brush up your resume and start looking for another job. It might be time for you to quit your current job and go back to school so that you can have your dream job. Workplace boredom happens for a reason. If you've tried challenging yourself, organizing your workspace, and joining social committees with no avail it might just be time for you to move on.
