If you want to help your body fight against such cancers as colon, breast lung and cervix, remember the cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, bok choy and kale. They not only make a great stir fry, but side dish and salad.
The Green leafy vegetables have always been touted as the epitome of health
Then to help fight cancer of the mouth, larynx, pancreas, lung, skin and stomach bring on the green leafy vegetables. Some good examples of this food group are lettuce, kale, chicory, spinach and chard. Great source of fiber, folate and carotenoids.
Tea and especially Green tea may slow or even prevent cancer
Another cancer fighting food being studied is tea, especially green tea. In studies, green tea has actually slowed or prevented colon cancer development as well as liver, breast and prostate cancer. It also has a cancer stopping effect in lung and skin tissue. And in some other longer term studies, tea was associated with lower risks of cancer for bladder, stomach, and pancreatic cancer. So all in all very worthwhile to include in your diet.
You may want to rethink your alcohol consumption
Alcohol is turning into a very dangerous culprit as a cancer causing agent. Mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, liver and breast have been linked to alcohol consumption. Drinking alcohol may also raise the risk of colon and rectal cancer development. In fact, the American Cancer Society is even cautioning against the suggested daily limit of two drinks for men and one drink for women, due to possible increase in risk. Women who have a family history and other risk factors for breast cancer may want to talk with a doctor whether consuming any alcohol would be safe.
You may be able to prevent bladder cancer by drinking water
And drinking water can help protect you against bladder cancer. The water dilutes concentrations of cancer causing agents in the bladder. And the increase in water makes you have to urinate more often which reduces the amount of time those agents stay in contact with the bladder lining.
How we prepare our meat does matter
And finally, how we prepare our meat can make a difference in the cancer causing risks. Frying, grilling and broiling at a very high temperature causes chemicals to form which may increase cancer risk. So try stewing, braising or steaming at a lower temperature to produce fewer of those chemicals.
So maybe you have noticed a pattern here. Not once was a hamburger from Burger King mentioned as a cancer reducing agent. But eating healthy, rich, colorful and well prepared foods will help lower your risk of cancer. Think about your alcohol intake and drink plenty of water. All in all, it's not that hard. Eat to be healthy and fight cancer.
