There are always a few acts on America's Got Talent that make us wonder what kind of party the judges went to the night before auditions. This season there were several on the first night alone. Luckily there were a few acts that made the night worthwhile.
Hot Spot Tap Dancers finally got the show going with a modernized tap routine. The three brothers and a sister group have really made tap dancing more current by interweaving some hip hop moves. The judges were a little harsh on the group, considering the acts they had and would later gush over. Piers Morgan said he wanted more "oomph" and Howie Mandel said their use of props was distracting. I think it made the act.
Up next were two very young men who call themselves Future Funk. They are a dance duo made up of ten year old Bailey and five year old Miles. These are two of the most charismatic kids to take the stage on AGT. No matter if Future Funk wins, these boys are bound to be famous.
After a long night of air bands and hand whistling (seriously, I felt like I was at the state fair), Fighting Gravity took the stage. This group of Virginia Tech frat boys took a school talent show act and have made it into their own sort of Blue Man Group. With lights out and black lights on you are prepared for something special. You are not let down in the least. It's a bit of a techno dance surprise. There is no way to explain it. It's mesmerizing, it's fun.
Hopefully the three acts listed will go through to the semifinals on America's Got Talent this week, The fourth spot is a toss up for me. The young girls' dance group, RNG, was pretty good. If the 'Vote for the worst' crowd get involved though I fear we may hear more hand whistling or air guitar. Do you actually hear air guitar? That is another show entirely.
Tomorrow night Selena Gomez and Rock of Ages take the AGT stage between results. For full judges comments and videos go here.

Post a Commentyou could essentially say that about all the acts on the show. none of it is original.
I just finished posting the following on the group's website (http://www.fightingravity.com/2010/06/thank-you.html#comments). I think it ought to be of interest to all those believe in the spirit of the competition:
The name of the crew you "drew inspiration from" is called Expression crew, no "s".
I find it outrageous that you are on a show called America's Got Talent when so much of your performance involves the flat out theft of the work of another group. To compete on a show about homegrown talent and to essentially copy the work of another group is downright shameful.
If you believe crediting the group you've copied -- on your website only and with errors no less -- as "an inspiration" is exculpatory, I believe you are mistaken. To claim their talent as your own is a lie. If you truly buy into the spirit of the competition, you should make it your duty to point out where the true talent lies, and to give proper credit where it is due, on air and to America.
