Fighting a Kidney Infection Naturally

Beth Lytle
According to the Mayo Clinic, a kidney infection is a specific type of a urinary tract infection or a UTI. This type of infection typically begins in the bladder, eventually traveling up to the kidneys. If someone suspects they're suffering from a kidney infection, that individual should seek medical attention immediately, because infections that are left untreated may lead to more serious problems.

However, some individuals receive several rounds of treatments from their doctor and still suffer from infections. In these cases, it may be necessary to treat the infection naturally and at home. Still, never rely completely on home remedies, especially if the infection does not go away. A typical kidney infection will not completely go away for 2 to 4 weeks, so don't expect immediate results.

Some individuals find relief in drinking one to two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (organic is better) mixed in with 8 to 16 ounces of cool water several times throughout the day. For the best mixture, add a squirt of apple cider vinegar to the bottom of a drinking glass. Drop three to four (or up to six) ice cubes into the apple cider vinegar and fill the glass with cold water. Sip on this mixture several times a day throughout the day, making sure to drink at least 4 of these per day.

The next home remedy involves mixing half a teaspoon of baking soda with 8 to 16 ounces of water and drinking this mixture three to four times a day. By the end of day one, this remedy should help the pain subside and may help make symptoms better in as little as four days.

Finally, add freshly squeezed lemon juice (one teaspoon at a time) with at least 8 ounces of water and drink throughout the day. The lemon helps to cleanse the kidneys naturally. Drink plenty of fresh water and suck on raw honey throughout the day. These remedies can be very helpful. If drinking cranberry juice to help clear up a UTI, a kidney infection or to help ward infections off, make sure to drink 100 % juice and not juice from concentrate. There is a difference! Some people cannot stand the taste of apple cider vinegar water straight, so they choose to mix the honey or lemon in with the apple cider vinegar to make a sort of tea.

You can also brew some fresh tea out of the herb calendula and drink once or twice a day to help get rid of infection and cleanse the kidneys. This herb can be ordered from health food stores.
