Tonight, just like every other night,
I sit by my window
And I search for the face of God.
I pray for God's best son
To have and to hold
For the rest of my life;
So unhappy now living life all alone.
Starlight twinkles like diamonds
On the black onyx and velvet sky.
Stars so bright, they reflect
The lonely tears collected in my eyes.
As I brushed the tears away,
I thought I heard angels singing;
Then I heard the voice of God say,
"You cannot give from an empty cup.
My child, don't you know I notice.
I see your cup is empty,
Because you gave your heart away.
Listen to me now! Keep your cup full!
Give from your overflow;
But don't give it all away.
You cannot give from an empty cup."
I don't understand, Lord
What are you saying to me?
"I say to you, take care of yourself;
Trust your instincts, and hold back.
Hold onto your heart;
Protect it and fill it.
Fill it with the essence of Me.
Give only from your overflow;
Because you cannot give from an empty cup.
I sit by my window
And I search for the face of God.
I pray for God's best son
To have and to hold
For the rest of my life;
So unhappy now living life all alone.
Starlight twinkles like diamonds
On the black onyx and velvet sky.
Stars so bright, they reflect
The lonely tears collected in my eyes.
As I brushed the tears away,
I thought I heard angels singing;
Then I heard the voice of God say,
"You cannot give from an empty cup.
My child, don't you know I notice.
I see your cup is empty,
Because you gave your heart away.
Listen to me now! Keep your cup full!
Give from your overflow;
But don't give it all away.
You cannot give from an empty cup."
I don't understand, Lord
What are you saying to me?
"I say to you, take care of yourself;

Because you cannot give from an empty cup.
