Film Casting that Might Have Been for Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp

Jennifer Habersham
I love movies. I think most people do. But sometimes when watching a film I find myself thinking "this actor isn't right for this role at all". Here are a few film roles that actors Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp lost or passed on.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is known more for his beauty than acting skills and he turned down many a good role. I doubt that he is kicking himself over it. But here are some of Brad Pitt's what might have beens:

About A boy- Brad was originally asked to play the lead character Will. He passed but Hugh Grant snapped it up, didn't do a whole lot for Grants career.

American Psycho-Pitt also passed on the role of Patrick Batmen which turned Christian Bale into a star.

The Bourne Identity- the role that made Matt Damon a star was originally written for Pitt.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- Tim Burton didn't like the idea of Willi Wonka being played by Pitt. Of course the role went to Johnny Depp. Who else could have played such a quirky role so well?

From Hell- Pitt was considered for the role of Inspector Fred Abberline but once again Depp was chosen for the role.

Heathers- One of the greatest teen movies of all time. Brad auditioned for the part of J.D. but lost the role to Christian Slater. Apparently Pitt was considered too beautiful to pull off such a dark character like J.D.

The Matrix- Brad Pitt was wanted to play the lead part of Neo. How different that movie would have been without Keanu Reeves. WHOA!

Sleepy Hallow- Brad Pitt was considered for the lead role in Sleepy Hallow. Once again he lost the part to Mr. Johnny Depp.

Unfaithful- Pitt was offered the part of Paul but quickly passed on it. The role went to Oliver Martinez instead.

Johnny Depp

Jonny Depp is known best for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of The Caribbean trilogy.

Bram Stoker's Dracula-Francis Ford Coppola wanted Depp to play the lead role of Jonathan. The studio did not agree and the role went to Keanu Reeves instead. How much better this movie would have been with Depp.

Ferris Buller's Day Off- Depp was offered the lead role of Ferris Buller but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. This film made Broderick a household name.

Interview with a Vampire- Depp was offered the role as the vampire Lestat but turned it down. Tom Crusie went on to play Lestat much to the chagrin of one Anne Rice.

Legend- Depp was considered for the role of Jack which was eventually played by Tom Cruise.

Legends of the Fall- Johnny Depp was originally considered to play the part of Tristan. He passed on the role that went to of course Brad Pitt. Are you seeing a pattern here?

The Matrix- Depp with a slew of other actors turned down the role of Neo in this ground breaking film.

Platoon- Depp was considered to play the part of Pvt. Chris Taylor who Charlie Sheen later made famous.

Point Break- not only was Depp considered for the role of Johnny Utah so was Matthew Broderick, Val Kilmer and Charlie Sheen. The role went to Keanu Reeves.

Signs- Depp was considered for the role of Father Graham Hess which ended up being played by Mel Gibson.

Sin City- Depp was forced to pass on the role of Jackie Boy (played by Bencio Del Toro) due to a prior commitment.

Thelma and Louise- Can you guess which part Depp turned down? Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. Depp turned down the role of the hitchhiker which turned Brad Pitt into the young "it" boy in Hollywood.

So to sum up thise series of what could have been casting: Johnny Depp stole the career that Brad Pitt should have had, Brad Pitt doesn't care, and Keanu Reeves was nobodies first choice for...well...anything it appears.

The casting of Interview With a Vampire was just plain bad!

You should watch The 9th Gate with Depp.

wow, great info. I have often wondered why a certain actor played a role that I felt wasn't suited. Now I see that they may have been a second or even third choice for the role
