Film Favorites of 2010

1. The Expendables

Before you critique and draw the lynching rope, I will acknowledge that prior films written and directed by Sylvester Stallone are typically unrealistic, dramatic, and repetitive in nature. However, fans have repeatedly insisted on viewing these films for one component only....action! Apparently, Stallone will accompany a group of "expendable" mercenaries opposing a South American dictator. Prior and unrelated storylines suggest that the plot will include an exaggerated body count and unlimited amounts of blood and gore. You ask, "And what aspect of the film direction have I not already witnessed?" The answer....the cast. Action favorites Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Eric Roberts, of course, Danny Trejo, and many more will make an appearance. According to associates, even Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will produce cameos.

2. Iron Man 2

I was extremely skeptical, and hesitant to spend $12 and 2+ hours to view Iron Man in theaters. Reviews and personal acquaintances claimed it was directed brilliantly by Favreau, and the scenes were exciting and intense. However, I failed to agree similarly to other comic book adaptations such as Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Spider Man, etc....Only X-Men satisfied my comic related appetite. Fortunately, I was mistaken. Now as I await the sequel, I remain surprised as I notice an amazing cast being prepared. Assumingly, you are already aware of the storyline. The newly adopted cast includes Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Should make for a hell of a ride.

3. Clash of the Titans

As I have always been an avid fan, fascinated by Greek mythology, I feel inclined to premier this film as soon as it reaches theaters. Sam Worthington, the star of Terminator Salvation and Cameron's Avatar, assumes the role of mortal Perseus. A perilous journey, similar to that of The Odyssey, will thus decide whether evil reigns on Earth. Classic characters known as Medusa, Pegasus, and the Kracken have recently been confirmed to accompany the storyline. Recent marketing material has provided samplers and teasers to promote the film, and I have to admit that special effects are quite taunting. Other veteran actors such as Liam Neeson will assume the role of Zeus, and Ralph Fiennes will portray Hades, God of the Underworld. I anticipate this film to be a successful and accomplished remake; even though I usually despise the idea.

Good Article. I think Iron Man 2 is going to be a good movie too.

    Hey Greg,

This was a nice summary of the upcoming films. I don't know much about The Expendables, but it might be fun to watch if you want to see something that doesn't require a brain. Clash of the Titans and Iron Man 2 I'm looking forward to watching though.
