Film Review: BLOOD SURF (2000)

Surfers Vs. Giant Crocodile!

Kevin L. Powers

I would love to say that a giant killer crocodile is a great idea for a horror film but then after seeing "Blood Surf" (2000) I would be wrong. This film is about a reality film crew and some daredevil surfers out to film the dangerous sport of surfing with sharks. Unbeknownst to them they get into the feeding grounds on a giant crocodile. Sounds pretty simple and it is because that's about all the plot you're going to get from this timid sci-fi horror film.

With its tongue firming planted in cheek, this film lacks any suspense or scares but it does have nudity, sex, and lots of bad CGI deaths (if you're really into that thing). Having seen more of these mediocre to bad sci-fi films than I really care to mention, this film has one thing going for it which is its entertainment value.

These types of bad B-Movie horror films are not meant to be the best of the best. They are designed to allow audiences to become brain dead for 90 minutes and simply be entertained in the most basic way which this film actually does. The "surfing" aspect actually makes the film more entertaining primarily because the sport of surfing is so rarely used in horror films. Despite this minor detail the film still does rely on a bunch of teen to twenty-somethings who do clichéd and stupid things just in the name of a horror film.

Only the B-Movie die-hards will even watch to hazard a taste of this film but for all others just ignore this film.
