Film Review: CROC (2007)

Killer Crocodiles Have Their Due!

Kevin L. Powers
There's nothing new in the water except the killer in the nature gone amok film Croc (2007). As the title suggests a killer crocodile is on the loose in Thailand and its making a meal of the locals and turning the tourist trade on its head. Now I know that all of this sounds familiar (especially if you've seen the film Jaws as much as I have) and it should as the plot is fairly standard fair. There is nothing new under the sun for animals vs. man films (not that I've been privileged to of late).

The owner of a large hotel is trying to force a small time zoo and animal attraction out of business in order to take over his land but when the sighting of a twenty foot long crocodile starts making a meal of the locals and the tourist all bets are off.

This thing that sets this film apart from other films of its ilk is the fact that this film actually looks like it was filmed in Thailand giving it atmosphere and authenticity that most films in this genre tend to lack. The main actors all do a credible job and hold their own up next to character actor Michael Madsen (except for maybe the villain of the film) and the worst thing about the film is the just okay CGI crocodile, which can at times take away from the film. Despite these flaws the film can hold its own and is recommended for those lovers of animal-run-amok films.
