FilmArcade.Net: A Website for All Lovers of Movies

In edition to writing reviews for the Yahoo Contributor Network (aka Associated Content), I also submit some to another movie based website called FilmArcade.net. It has become an increasingly popular web destination for film fanatics of all kinds, and those who write for it declare themselves to be movie fans, not film critics. The site also devotes a significant amount of attention to independent movies whose support continues to dwindle in places where it shouldn't. With a diverse set of writers covering movies old and new, I'd like to think FilmArcade.net can give Ain't It Cool News a run for its money.

It started as a website back in January 2008 when its creator, Tony DeFrancisco, was writing his own blogs on MySpace, back when people went there on a regular basis. Discovering the wealth of writing talent there, he worked on getting everyone together as a group in games like who could see the most movies during the summer. The stronger we became as a group, the more it made Tony decide to realize his dream of creating a movie fans only website. The way it is designed, FilmArcade.net is for the regular people out there who love movies and discussing them. There is no room for Rex Reed, Ben Lyons, or Michael Medved on this one.

Tony has since left FilmArcade.net to pursue other opportunities, and Anthony Thurber and Randy have taken over as the site's administrators. Anthony describes himself as "the resident horror/independent film reviewer on the site," and he also writes a weekly column called Reviews From The Horror Chamber. Randy writes for Wikpik as well as FilmArcade, and he is willing to watch just about any movie regardless of its genre. Throughout his time as Administrator, Randy has encouraged other writers submit their reviews to the site, encouraging more dialogue between online film critics to give it the credibility many people seem to think it lacks.

In the past year, this site has done much to support independent films as well as major Hollywood releases. Its Independent Film Corner has had interviews with veteran and up and coming filmmakers like "Slime City" director Greg Lamberson, actress/director Susan Adriensen, and "Bloodstained Romance" director Travis B. Miller. The attention they bring to indie films is very commendable as the market for them continues to shrink, and it's hard to find another website that dares promote a movie like "The Disco Exorcist."

Other great features on FilmArcade include annual columns like 10 Movie Recommendations from Shaun Berk. Having recently published his 271^st edition of it, Shaun has fun creating a list of movies that range from 1997's "G.I. Jane" to 1950's "8 Ball Bunny," and he describes each quickly and thoroughly. You also have wonderfully written reviews from horror screenwriter Kelsey Zukowski, Fred (The Wolf) whose love and detail for horror movies knows no bounds, and of course myself (not that I want to brag or anything).

FilmArcade continues to attract a growing number of readers and visitors, and it recently got nominated for Best Entertainment Blog at the Blogger's Choice Awards. Tony, Anthony and Randy have done a great job of making it stand out from so many other websites like it, and the overall content keeps getting better and better. FilmArcade.net is truly a destination that must be taken for the movie fan in all of us, just as it was meant to be.
