Filmmaker Michael Moore Wants to Help Bail Out Julian Assange

Michael Moore: Supporter of WikiLeaks Cause, or Supporter of His Own Cause?

Celebrities have long had ties to organizations that help various causes, and their fame often gets important issues recognized by the public. A lot of celebrities choose causes that are dear to their heart, whether because of business or personal reasons.

One of the most controversial topics of 2010 is WikiLeaks, which has a heated debate going on across the world. This week, a celebrity made his controversial opinion known on the subject and is now trying to help the WikiLeaks cause.

USA Today reports that controversial filmmaker Michael Moore has offered to pay $20,000 to help bail WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange out of a London jail. Assange was put into jail last week stemming from sexual assault claims from two different women. Although Assange was granted bail, the Swedish authorities appealed the bail and he has to remain behind bars until the appeal on Thursday.

Moore offered even more assistance to WikiLeaks besides bail money for Assange, including offering website assistance and a domain for WikiLeaks. Moore's interest in WikiLeaks and support has people wondering what his motives might really be.

Moore is not the only celebrity to have gotten heat for his controversial causes, and he certainly will not be the last. According to Celebrity Toast, Leonardo DiCaprio also is an advocate of a controversial topic that has spanned across the world. DiCaprio is very vocal about his support of global warming and the environment. DiCaprio is known for being an environmentalist and believes highly in the impact of global warming on the environment and the people. Whether you believe in global warming or not, DiCaprio has helped make people more aware of the environment and the impact our actions will have. DiCaprio has been a supporter of environmental topics for years, and it has only made him more famous and more respected.

Celebrity Toast also reports that Sean Penn is involved in a controversial cause, which is his love of politics. Penn is often a critic of the death penalty and has been a firm opponent of the War on Terror in Iraq. Penn is a critic of the destruction of civil liberties and has been into politics for years. Although Penn is an actor, his love of politics seems to make him more of a political activist than an entertainer. Penn has gained a lot of support from his political ventures and outspoken nature, but he also has a lot of opponents as well. Penn's political views have not impacted him negatively overall because, when it is all said and done, he is still a high-profile and respected actor.

Michael J. Fox is also someone who supports a controversial cause, but his cause is a little more controversial than most. Celebrity Toast reports that, as most people know, Fox has Parkinson's disease. This disease and the effects it has have led him to be an avid supporter of stem-cell research. Fox has been fighting the disease since 1991, although he did not go public until 1998, when the symptoms were becoming obvious. Whether you believe that stem-cell research is wrong or right, Fox has definitely made the public more aware of the illness and the potential medical gains from stem cells.

Based on the people I chose to write about, Moore's support of Assange will have a large impact on both the filmmaker himself and on Assange. Moore is known for being controversial and I think this support for WikiLeaks will gain Moore attention and more fame. I think it will impact Moore because I think he has a motive behind the WikiLeaks support, such as a new movie based on the matter. Whether you agree with Moore or not, he does a very good job at getting controversial topics in the news and draws in the interest from the public. I also think Moore's support for Assange will affect Assange and help him gather more support, especially from the entertainment business.
