Final Fantasy 13 Review

In the realm of role playing games, the Final Fantasy franchise has long been a staple in the minds are hearts of gamer. Fanfare and spectacular fan fiction has been inspired by the franchise, as well as 13 games ranging over the course of a decade. Final Fantasy 13 has no small hurdle to jump in proving itself to the already loyal and quality expecting fan base. Today, I'm going to take a look at the newest installment in the series and find out whether or not Final Fantasy 13 is worth buying.

Upon first look, the graphics and visuals are breathtaking. Final Fantasy 13 is truly a remarkable masterpiece in the world of video game design, and it's something for all designers to take note of, mark down on a post it and focus on beating in the near future. There has never been a game in gaming history that looks are good as Final Fantasy 13. The developers have done an excellent job in realizing their creation to the fullest extent of beauty. That being said, there are some bad things about the game.

If you're just picking up the game for the first time and you've never played a Final Fantasy game in the past, you're going to be in awe. If you're an already steadfast fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, you may be a little disappointed with the extremely linear adventure sequence you're going to face for most of the duration of the game. If you're used the the world maps of the past Final Fantasy franchise and you want to play this game without any qualms, you'll have to get used to a linear style most related with first person shooters. There is little to no exploration within the confines of the universe and at times you feel...confined in your quest.

To wrap this up, there are good points and bad. The best of the good and bad have been stated above and the ones that follow are minor. There is a great, diverse and vibrant set of characters that has come to be expected of any Final Fantasy game. There is a great storyline unlike the stories I've seen in the past four to five years of gaming. Final Fantasy is famous for this and they've certainly delivered on this, the graphics and the character lineup. Character customization is fine, though the lack of the Materia system upset me personally.

All in all, you're probably going to enjoy this game if you don't mind the linear style too much. To be honest, love and hatred and both going to present in the minds of Final Fantasy 13. You'll experience hatred if you're not used to the linear style, but one cannot possibly deny the beauty and immersion that final fantasy 13 delivers.
