Final Fantasy VII: A Video Game Review

Final Fantasy VII Is one of the most revered games in the history of video games. It was revolutionary for its gameplay, graphics and presentation. Its FMV sequences were something almost never seen before and its storyline still endears fans 12 years after its releases. It is so popular it was recently re-released to be downloaded on the Playstation Network for the PS3. And for only $10, if you never played the game before, you should definitely check it out if you are into role-playing or adventure games.

The game basically launched Sony into the video game world. It was the premier launch game for the debuting Playstation and the acquisition of the Final Fantasy license from Nintendo was a turning point for both companies. Its stunning opening with Aeris is one of the most well-known in the history of video games and throughout the game there is an array of interesting characters, hidden secrets and challenges and great music.

The game's main character is Cloud, a brash and yet troubled and confused hero. I like the fact that during the game there is weakness and obstacles with that character which he ultimately conquers at the end of the game. I think anyone can relate with having things and obstacles from their past that can sometimes stick with them.

It also has a charming aspect of romance and friendship among the characters. Tifa is someone who has a crush on Cloud throughout the game and obviously cares for him but that is are far as it goes, at least that is what the game tells you. The different variety of characters is something that is great in the game.

The game has one of the greatest, darkest villains in video game history in Sephiroth. His presence throughout the game is so strong and his actions are so vile that is really brings the player into the game and makes the player feel the emotions that Cloud does.

The storyline has a little bit of everything for the player and really does a nice job blending drama, emotion and even a little comedy into the game. It shows people from all different types of life from mercenaries to flower girls and so on.

Musically, the game is very impressive and arguably one of the best in the series. Composer Nobuo Uematsu really connects the player to the game and brings a techno flair to some of the boss fights. The boss fights at the end of the game are tremendous musically. Difficulty-wise, if you have the proper materia, you shouldn't have a problem easily defeating the final bosses.

Overall, this was one of the best video games ever and one which can be quite addictive. If you have some down time, try it out, you'll be hooked.
