Final Resting Place? Reaction to Burr Oak Cemetery Tragedy

ladyliw
(This is in response to the current ongoing investigation of the disinterred bodies at Burr Oak Cemetery in a southwest suburban area of Chicago, Illinois.)

I have recently come to find that several family members are interred at BOC. I have never visited their graves - never intended, nor, intend to.
I buried my mom (in a different cemetery) just over 20 yrs ago, and have only gone once, and don't intend to return.
I don't believe in visiting graves.
What you are doing is looking at a patch of grass, a plot of land.
You cannot dig and re-dig their graves each time you go, so you may look into the coffins, so, what you are left with is a plot of land and nothing more.
These bodies we reside in, while here on earth, are temporary vessels.
The spirit is what is important.
I have the spirit of Geneva Williams (my mother) with me wherever I go. I can call upon it whenever I need. I do not have to drive to a cemetery to look for her "resting place" to find her and visit with her.
SHE IS ALWAYS WITH ME.
Yes, these plots were meant to be the "final resting place" for loved ones, so why not let them rest?
A great deal of disrespect was shown and should be penalized severely. But in the grander scheme of things, these people were at rest the second they died.
If you really loved them, their love and memories are with and within you.
Yes, I feel for the families who have found their loved ones remains to have been disturbed. I pray for your peace.
Should those involved be punished? Definitely.
And in time, all will be handled as justice is sought.
But in the greater scheme of things - the Bible clearly says: "they came from dust and they return to dust." Ecclesiastes 3:20(b) (New Living Translation)...or, as it's said at many funerals, "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..."
R.I.P. to all who have died.
To those whose remains have been disturbed - I know you are at rest and have and always will be, regardless of what has happened to your body.
To the families and friends - I pray your peace in God.
