A conversation typically goes like this; "I'm pro-choice," which is rapidly countered by "I'm anti-abortion." The fact is abortion and freedom of choice are two separate and distinct issues and one has nothing to do with the other.
Let's start with abortion. You're either pro- or anti- abortion. It's a personal opinion - an OPINION. End of conversation.
Choice - the freedom to make a choice - is not an opinion. It's the personal freedom to make a decision; a right here in the U.S. So if you're not pro-choice, you're anti-choice; someone who's against democratic ideals.
The water gets intentionally muddy - made so by those who are frustrated by the individual rights clarified by Roe Vs Wade - when the two concepts are deliberately used together as illustrated above. This is designed to confuse two simple issues. And they will continue to be until the two concepts are correctly separated every single time this issue comes up.
If someone asks where you stand on abortion and you choose to answer, the correct response is "I am pro- or anti- abortion." You don't have to elaborate. The matter is finished.
If pressed further about the choice issue, point out that discussing personal choice has nothing to do with personal opinions on abortion.
So to be absolutely crystal clear: Choice is a right. Abortion preference is an opinion.
