Planning on filling out your own tax forms? If you live in or around Richland County, South Carolina, you have several options to choose from in order to find the South Carolina tax forms that you need. You can go to this link, Department of Revenue's Website, and download the forms.

You can click on this link to send an online request EMAIL REQUEST to have a form mailed to you. This link is for specific forms that you may need but are not included on DORs website download list. Be sure to be specific about which forms you want to have mailed.

If you have a fax machine available, click on this link Fax on Demand for a list of forms that can be faxed to you. This link will take you to a list of the forms that are available by fax along with the phone number of the automated system by which you make your request.

Another option is to go to the DORs office in Columbia, SC and pick up the forms that you want. The address is, 301 Gervais Street, Columbia, S.C. The location to pick up federal forms from the local IRS office is, 1835 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC. Their operating hours are from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.

Federal tax forms can be downloaded directly from the IRS at this link; Federal Tax Forms. In order to find your form quickly you will need to enter the form number in the find box. For instance I entered 1040 in the find box and then chose Title in the second box and it brought up all the forms and instructions for the 1040.

You can also pick up printed federal and state income tax forms at the State Library located at 1430 Senate St., Columbia, SC. Their hours are from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.

If you are able to fill out your tax forms yourself, you will save plenty of money. For many years now I have done my own taxes using the TurboTax. Luckily I don't have that complicated of a return to prepare. I started preparing my own taxes when I went to a preparer's office and as I was sitting in his office he entered the information that I brought him into his computer. When I picked up my return I could see that it had come from a computer program. I figured I could do that as easily as he could and I've been doing it ever since. No matter how you decide to do your taxes, though, they still have to be completed and mailed by April 15th.
