Find the Cheapest Stamina Food in World of Warcraft

When Other Players Are Ignorant, You Can Save Money

Everybody in World of Warcraft eats some kind of food when raiding. You need all the buffs you can get and specialty foods can boost your stamina or damage output.

Tanks in particular know the value of food, because they often have to chow down on uber-expensive fish. The best Stamina food in the game - offering +30 stamina - can be made out of Furious Crawdad. This limited availability fish can cost upwards of 50 to 60 gold per stack. Ouch.

Luckily, there are alternatives. You don't need to spend all your hard earned gold on Crawdad. You can get Stamina other ways...

Try The Cheap, +20 Stamina Fish

First thing you should do is stock up on +20 Stamina food. You're not always pushing the envelope of raid progression, so you don't always need to completely min-max your buffage.

Sure, +30 stamina is better than +20 stamina. But is 1 gold per stack better than 60 gold per stack? I'd say so.

My tank always keeps a stack of nice and cheap Feltail Delight in his bags. It's a fairly common fish, so you probably have a lot of it if you fish yourself.

If not, check the Auction House. Most people are dying to get rid of it. The average price on Wowhead is 20 silver per piece (4 gold per stack), but on my server it often drops to less than 1 gold per stack.

Chew on this when you're doing easy Heroics or regular level 70 dungeons. This way you can use consumables for "easy" content without blowing the bank and making yourself poor.

Or Get the Unknown +30 Stamina Fish

For those nights of real raiding, you'll want +30 stamina food. Every little bit counts, and you never know when that 100 health is gonna come in handy.

Luckily there is a second recipe for +30 stamina. Most people don't know about the Fisherman's Feast recipe, and the materials can often be bought on the auction house cheaply.

Fisherman's Feast takes, as part of it's recipe, a Huge Spotted Feltail. This off-hand fish is a fairly rare drop while fishing. You'll probably come across a couple per hour randomly or you'll get them as a result of doing the Cooking daily quest and opening a Barrel of Fish.

Perhaps because they aren't "farmable," people don't realize their potential. Each off-hand fish can be turned into six pieces of hefty +30 stamina food. You'll need a few other reagents, and these will cost you about 60 silver for the stack of six food.

The trick is to check the Auction House for Huge Spotted Feltail often. People that don't know what to do with them will list them for a few silver. Paying a gold for one of these fish is still a steal compared to buying Furious Crawdad. It'll work out to about a tenth of the price on average.

So remember - put your fish to good use. Let everyone else waste their money on Furious Crawdad. Start cornering the market on Huge Spotted Feltail and keep a large, cheap stash of +30 stamina food available for raiding.

  • Specialty foods provide buffs to stamina or damage output
  • Furious Crawdad, which create +30 Stamina food, is very expensive. It can cost 50g+ per stack.
  • Huge Spotted Feltail can be cooked into +30 Stamina food, and you can buy it on the AH for cheap.
The Fisherman's Feast recipe was changed in a recent patch to yield six piece of food. Most people still operate under the assumption that it is not worthwhile because it only yields one piece of food.
