Find the Cure for Celebrity Gossip News Addiction

Oops, We Did it Again

You know who you are. You sit at the computer, bookmarking the latest celebrity gossip sites, adding them to your favorite RSS feeds. When your animated e-mail notifier pops up saying, "She did it again," you neglect your online bill pay session to devour the celebrity gossip sites to find out what he, she, or they did again.

Why is there a celebrity gossip epic going on? The media frenzy has taken a toll on celebrities, but it's not just the celebrities that are suffering. It is taking a toll on the entire public. The manic conduct and unethical practices from the paparazzi is camouflaged as news reporting. There are few spaces left anymore for news that is fit to print.

The epic begins with the laws of supply and demand. The more need for celebrity gossip, the more the media fulfills that demand. So, how did the demand for celebrity gossip go from simple entertainment to a class of Rumor 101?

In a world where war, disaster, crime, family dysfunctions, and other tragedies are at an all-time high, many of us need to fill an empty spot within us. We need fulfillment, satisfaction, escape. We need consolation that our problems aren't as bad as what is the celebrities are experiencing, or if they are, then our problems are shared alike.

Celebrity gossip sites and other tabloids have some of the same qualities of a book. Both of them allow us to see what the problem is, how they are solving it, and what they went through step-by-step. However, the difference between celebrity gossip and a good book is that a book will bring us to a resolution within a reasonable amount of time. We read a story about a character that goes through many trials and hopefully a few triumphs. We can stay up all night reading a book, so we can finish it to find the ending-an answer or cure to the character's trials.

With tabloids and celebrity gossip blogs, we can't stay up all night to find a settling resolution. It may take months or even years to find a resolution to a celebrity's trials. It is like being held hostage indefinitely by the climax. The cure, the answer, the resolution, is not there. This creates an obsession, an anxiety, a discomfort that takes us from the normal life and social functions of what we need to do, to take care of the responsibilities in our own book, our own story, our own cure.

Find a cure for celebrity gossip news addiction with a few simple steps.

STARVE THE CELEBRITY GOSSIP RSS FEEDS

Remove all entertainment RSS feeds, and subscribe to general news feeds like Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, or Washington Post. Although these news sites have an entertainment news section, skim or skip this section, and focus on the general news features.

SUBSCRIBE TO UPLIFTING MAGAZINES

Unsubscribe from tabloid subscriptions and celebrity gossip newsletters. Consider subscriptions to magazines that can help your family or lifestyle.

APPLY THE GOLDEN RULE

Always remember the Golden Rule. Refuse to read or comment on celebrity blogs or news sites. The higher the amount of comments shows the demand for celebrity gossip and rumors. These sites will produce more gossip, by demand, and that means more paparazzi action. In the process of weaning yourself off the gossip sites, if you insist on making comments on celebrity blogs or celebrity news sites, consider making a positive contribution or nothing at all.

BE CREATIVE

Create a satisfying internal resolution to a news report about a problem or situation a celebrity is suffering from. End the climax immediately inside. Have empathy and sensitivity when creating an optimistic resolution.

LOOK INSIDE

Find the needs, fulfillment, and empty spaces inside our own lives, and see if we can find the cure or resolution to our own problems. When we do, write a letter to a celebrity in need, and let them know how you found a print-happy resolution. Create news that we can use.
