The following resources offer listings of free medical, dental and pharmaceutical help by state or program. Keep in mind that information can change as funding changes for the various programs.
Free Medical Camps lists free medical and dental clinics across the United States and in various U.S. Territories.
The United States National Library of Medicine: National Institutes of Health has a listing of discounted and free services for medical, pharmaceutical and dental. In this listing is the contact information for various pharmaceutical companies that offer free and discounted drug plans based upon various factors. Usually income is considered, but the limits vary. Extenuating circumstances may be considered. Some international information is listed as well.
Walgreens offers a "Take Care" clinic in multiple locations. In April of 2009, Walgreens announced it would provide free medical care at its Take Care clinics for existing patients who lost their job on or after March 31, 2009 and are uninsured. The coverage will go through the end of 2009. More information about the program and the applicable locations is available on the Take Care Health Recovery Plan page.
The Hill-Burton Free Care Program, Titles VI & XVI was established so hospitals and other medical centers could provide free or discounted care. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration provides links to various providers of such care. Some of the care may be discounted, not free, so be sure to read the fine print and to contact the listed facility for verification and more information.
Multiple states use a "211" phone number as a resource for free information for its citizens. Information includes where to find free or discounted help with food, housing, clothing, utilities, medicine, pregnancy/birth control, transportation and more. Some of these states also provide the same information online. Since each participating state has its own unique 211 website, United Way, AIRS and RTM Designs have created an easily searchable database so the information may be more easily located and accessed by the public. One need only enter the appropriate zip code, city or state to find the relevant 211 website.
