Find A Grave is a site were you and your family can create an online memorial of lost love ones. There is no charge for creating an online memorial but you are required to register with Find A Grave. You can add photo's of your loved ones along with their biography. Once you have created you your memorial it will be published almost immediately.
Find A Grave is also a great source for research. If you are looking for information on any famous person that has died you can go to Find A Gave and it will be there. Find A Grave currently has every celebrity that that you could possibly think of, that has ever died. What's more impressive is how soon the information on the latest celebrity death is posted. For instance, when Steve Irwin died it was only a matter of about 1 hour and his full biography and multiple pictures were already available on Find A Grave.
In addition to researching celebrities, you will find that Find A Grave is a great source for doing genealogy research. Since there are over 18 million current records, and hundreds being added every hour, your are sure to find those long lost great uncles of yours who you had no idea they were married with eight children.
Find A Grave is much like other content producing sites. They have a founder with a small staff of 8 people, but the majority of their content comes from family and friends of loved ones who just want to create a memorial along with contributors who find it to be a hobby. There are several contributors that have contributed over a 100,000 memorials. Currently, Gary Nelson is their highest contributor with 774,361 memorials, not to mention the 126,677 photos that he has also submitted.
Find A Grave offers much more then just researching dead people. They offer information on 1,000's of cemeteries, a discussion forum, a Find A Grave Store, and photo requests. If there is a photo of a cemetery, or person that you are looking for be sure to submit it and one of their generous contributors will have it to you as soon as possible. So the next time you are out researching your family tree be sure to go to Find A Grave.com to see if some of your missing branches may be laying around there.
