Find Out What the Best External Hard Drive is for You

Chris Ware
If you like to download or play lots of games then you will need lots of free hard drive space. But it can be a pain to add extra hard drive space to your computer. Fortunately there is a much easier option then adding memory to your computer. You can just get an external hard drive instead. External hard drives are more portable and allow you to put everything on your computer onto it, so when you are on the go you can easily put your computer onto another one. However not all external hard drives are created equal. This article will help you know which are the best external hard drives.

Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB

If you did not know it yet you soon will realize that Western Digital makes some of the best external hard drives. When it comes to external hard drives one of the most important things is the storage capacity. About the largest you can get right now is 2TB. Even the most avid down loader or gamer will have a hard time filling this up to capacity. For about $105 the Western Digital Elements 2 gives you one of the best and biggest external hard drives.

Western Digital WD Elements 1TB

While you may get a better price per terabyte with the the Western Digital WD Elements 2TB most people are never going to need so much space. For most people its better to save the $35 then get the extra 1TB that they will never use. Being Western Digital it offers a 1 year warranty if anything should happen but being Western Digital it is unlikely you will have any problems.

Western Digital WD Elements 1.5TB

The Western Digital WD Elements 1.5TB is a good option if you are not sure if you should get the 1 or the 2TB external hard drive. Unless you know you will need the 2TB then you probably don't and it is better to spend $90 for the 1.5TB then the money for the 2TB. The Western Digital WD Elements 1.5TB offers the same high quality that the other Western Digital WD Elements offer.

Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1TB

The Western Digital My Passport Essential SE is going to cost as much as the Western Digital Elements 2TB but you are paying more per TB for the small portable size. You are also getting some extra features like a 2 year warranty which you probably will not need. USB 3.0 connection which lets you put files on faster. You get automatic continuous backup protection so if something happens like the computer goes off your data is safe. The Western Digital My Passport Essential SE is also password protected so if you have sensitive files they will be safe. Because of the higher price tag this is best for people who plan to take their external hard drives around with them a lot. If you plan to just attach a hard drive to your computer at home to give yourself more memory then this is not for you.

Seagate Expansion 2TB

The other big name in external hard drives is Seagate. The Segate Expansion 2TB is the largest they offer. Costing only $95 it is a little cheaper then the similar Western Digital external hard drive. While Western Digital might be slightly better realistically you should have no problem with the Seagate and they also offer a 1 year limited warranty. The only reason this is not a clearly better option then the Western Digital is that anyone wanting 2TB probably knows a thing or two about computers and probably wants the best. Saving a little bit of money for something that is not the very best is not worth it to them. But since you get a high quality product at a better price realistically for the common man this is the best choice.

As you can see deciding on the hard drive has many factors such as storage capacity and size. Some of these external hard drives may be better for you then others but thanks to this review you now know the best external hard drives.
