Many people find working from home easily distracting. They can get into the habit of leaving their work space and cleaning, watching TV or going to the shops. This is not very productive. Allowing yourself to become distracted by things in and around your home means you will never get anything done.
If you fit some of the following criteria for a freelancer then maybe you could work from home?
Are you self confident? When starting out alone you must be confident that your business is going to succeed, if you are lacking in confidence try boosting it by telling yourself you are more that capable of success. If you are not assertive and positive, you will never be able to build your business to its potential.
Are you disciplined? It is very easy to get distracted working from home. The urge to do other things that are not work related is very tempting, even more so when the weather is nice. If you are able to position yourself so that you work to your structure regardless of nice weather or the cleaning then you make a good candidate for a freelancer.
Are you self motivated? Working from home means that you do not have any one else to motivate you or tell you to get on with your work. You also have to retain the motivation to get up and out of bed in the morning and start work, without having an extra hour or two in bed.
Are you able to beat procrastination? Procrastination is basically, not wanting to do a specific job because it is difficult or tedious. These jobs still need to be done. If you are not looking forward to doing your tax return or expenses and you keep putting it off, then you will get fined. Other jobs are similar, you need to have the will power to tackle these jobs head on and when they are complete you will feel a great sense of achievement.
Are you patient? Finally, do you have the patience to work with people who may be less than helpful, or have a long a tedious project to complete, or work is pretty slow and you are waiting for the phone to ring. You need to be patient enough to deal with these situations. You must adopt the saying 'good things come to those who wait' and you are more likely to succeed as your approach to these problems will be calm and collected.
If you feel you fit the description of a freelance worker then why not start today, you have what it takes to work from home so why not reap the many advantages.
