One of the best things, and the main feature, of FindGift.com is the Gift Wizard. The Gift Wizard asks you questions, and according to your answers will give you search results of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of creative gifts your recipient will like. I'll use Father's Day as an example to show you what the Gift Wizard can do.
The first question the Wizard will ask you is, "Who is the gift for?" with the options being: Her, Him, Couple, Family, and Pet/Pet Lover. Being that I'm getting a gift for my father, I would select "Him".
The next question is "He is your..." with a list of fifteen different options, that include: Friend, Husband, Boyfriend, Dad, Son, Teacher, etc. After choosing "Dad", it goes to the next question, which is "What is the recipient's age?" It follows with age ranges from 13 through 65 and over. I chose the age range of 41-50 (depending on the recipient you pick, ages can range from Newborn to 65 and over).
The last question is, "Reason for the gift?" With this question they give you three categories to choose from: Occasions, Holidays, and Expressions. Occasions include what you might expect (Birthday, Baby Shower, Anniversary, Wedding), but also things you might not have thought of, such as Breakup/Divorce, Back to School, Promotion, and Family Reunion. The Expressions category includes a wide variety as well; with everything from I'm Sorry to Congratulations. However, it's the Holiday section that I particularly like, because it starts with the holiday that is coming up, includes the date, then works its way down the calendar with every holiday coming after it, including their dates as well. And besides the popular holidays (Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Thanksgiving, Chanukah), it will include the Super Bowl, Teacher's Day, Academy Awards, and so on. Since I'm getting a gift for my dad, I selected "Father's Day". The good thing about the Wizard is that it gives you the option to skip over any question, if you don't want it included in the search. After I've selected the occasion, my search results will appear.
Through my Father's Day search, the site comes up with 1,195 gift ideas, but my options don't stop there. If I don't feel like browsing all those gifts there are several things I can do. I can search through my gifts using the "Find by Gift Type" option. There are sixteen options of gift types and I can select as many or as few as I would like. They include Practical, Fun, Personalized, Trendy, Humorous, and so on. I can also find gifts by department (Keepsakes, Food, Travel, Sports, Electronics, etc.) and by store (Things Remembered, Red Envelope, and many others). I can also sort gifts by popularity and price. And the best thing is that the gift ideas are great! Even if I don't find something that is an exact match or exactly what I'm looking for, the site will refer you to hundreds of websites that all have great gifts.
Just so you know what I'm talking about, some of the gifts in my Father's Day search included a Voice-Command Universal Remote, an Engraved Photograph on Marble, a Personalized Golf Cartoon, a 5-in-1 Tape Measure, a USB Drink Chiller and Warmer, Personalized Photo Playing Cards, a membership to the Salsa of the Month Club, an Acre of Land on the Moon, poems, plaques and hundreds of more cheap and not-so-cheap gifts.
Other nice features of the website include the free gift registry, where you can make wish lists and hint lists of "any gift, from any store, for any occasion". It also has e-mail features of sending gift lists to family and friends, and sending reminders for different gift occasions to yourself or others.
The only downside to the site that I could find is that sometimes the gifts tend to be repetitive. Although they give you hundreds of options, sometimes they will show 20 different versions of essentially the same product. But, the good thing is that the site redirects you to the seller of the product, and by searching the seller's website you can often find even more gift ideas. Another good thing is that even though you may not buy a gift through the website, I always come out of the experience with a good idea for a gift, whether it's something I can make myself or buy cheaper on a different site or store. So, no matter the occasion or the person, you will get something out of your experience with FindGift.com.
