Finding Declassified U.S. Government Documents Online

Rebecca Said
When classified documents are 25 years old, they become de-classified. This article will help you to retrieve U.S. government documents that once were classified. These include letters, reports, background checks, military operations, cold war, government surveillance and much more. De-classified government documents can help you to learn some interesting facts about secret government operations. This article includes my sources in getting these documents free on the Internet.

One thing to keep in mind is that United States government documents are always being declassified. Check these sources often!

The CIA has recently de-classified government documents that include UFO's, Bay of Pigs, POW's, Guatemala, human rights in Latin America, atomic spies and soviet spies. www.foia.ucia.gov/records.asp

National Government Archives has recently de-classified government documents that include genealogy records, veteran records, State Department and diplomacy, World War II records, native Americans, black Americans, Bankruptcy records, holocaust era assets, JFK assassination and more. On this website you can also search by electronic records, maps and aerial images, microfilm, motion picture, paper records and electronic records. www.archives.gov/research/declassification/

National Security Agency has recently de-classified government documents that include Gulf of Tonkin, U.S.S. Liberty, VENONA, Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis, Unidentified Flying Objects, John F. Kennedy Assassinations and Truman Memorandum. www.nsa.gov/public/publi00003.cfm

Here, you can read declassified government documents that include the American Nazi Party, Columbine High School, FBI undercover operations, Marilyn Monroe, The Monkees, Nation of Islam, National Rifle Association, Ku Klux Klan, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and so much more. This website has all the espionage, gangsters and violent crime that you may ever want to read. The FBI also provides a long list of other government websites that comply with the Freedom of Information act. These are more sources that provide information on government documents. www.usdoj.gov/oip/other_age.htm

United States Department of State also releases de-classified government documents. In the Church Report you can read about covert action in Chile from 1963-1973. In the Hinchey Report you can read about CIA activities in Chile.

Here are some additional government documents you might find interesting:
